My Daily Physical Practice

Building Systems

I am a big believer in building systems within our daily lives in order to achieve our goals. I want to share with you how I am currently doing this in terms of my physical practice. My current training program is only 2x/week for heavy, barbell-focused strength training. I’ve set it up like this so that I have time to do more metcon-type workouts within the week. Outside of these sessions, I have ‘dailies’ that I aim to hit every day.

My dailies include:

  • Pullups x 50 total
  • Animal Flow x 5 minutes
  • Skipping Rope x 1 song

These are 3 things I’d like to get better at and continue to practice. Notice that none of these are a huge time commitment. This is KEY for building systems into your life because there is literally no excuse for not doing any of these things. Don’t get me wrong though, I am not perfect so there are days where I do miss one or all of these items. These days are rare but they do happen.

Whether you want to become stronger at chinups, become more mobile or you want to improve a certain skill, find a way to integrate it into your daily life. I’ve found that 5-10 minutes is the sweet spot for getting some of these things done. A short time commitment prevents excuses and it doesn’t seem as intimidating as a full on 1-hour training session. 5-10 minutes may not seem like much, but add it up over the course of weeks, months and years and you will become a badass.
